Q & A with Sara Miller
- What was the main pull factor for you getting into the creative environment?
Since the age of 4 I have always loved drawing and there was really nothing else I was going to do.
I’ve spent the last 8 years in the card industry and more recently establishing Sara Miller London as a brand. Before I got into greeting cards, I designed prints for fashion in both London and New York. Occasionally I would go to retailers like Miss Selfridge or Topshop and see a print I’d designed on a new dress. It was fun, but I much prefer the world I’m in now.
2. What do you enjoy most about your work?
The variety. From illustrating and designing, to putting together a whole new collection and then presenting it to key customers. I have also learnt a huge amount about branding which has been integral to pushing everything forward and this has also been a really interesting journey.
3.Where do your major inspirations come from, and why?
Definitely my travels, in particular across Asia. I absolutely fell in love with Japan and India. The sakura cherry blossom in Japan is sensational as are the wealth of palaces, markets, and textiles all across India. This has had a huge impact on my work.
4.In terms of Greetings Cards, what occasion do you find yourself buying the most cards for? e.g. weddings, new job.
Birthday!
5.What’s your favourite part about working with The Art File?
The quality of product produced is second to none. They really do have the finest standards and I am always very proud to show off our cards.
6. If you could choose to go to one country on an all-expenses paid trip, where would it be, who would you take, &why?
Vietnam is top of my list and would be with my Husband. Given my love for Asia this is an obvious next stop and Phil has a joint passion for travel.
7.You’re walking down the street, and find a £50 note on the floor. What would you spend it on?
It would be given to charity!
8.You’ve been told you’ve got to move to a desert island for a year, food and water is provided, but nothing else. And you only have space for three things... what would they be?
Laptop, Wacom tablet and charger! (assuming this desert island provides electricity!)
9. Can you recommend any TV series you’ve been watching lately?
Suits. Billions. Catastrophe.
